Maca is new to me. It was recommended to me by a friend. I am surprised to know that it has a lot of benefits aside from helping me lose weight. I will definitely continue adding this to my morning coffee.

Stay safe and healthy!

Cheers!

I feel like I have more energy and generally feel in a better mood. Maybe it’s the placebo effect? That’s not my concern here.
My question is the amount of lead in Maca. Maybe I missed it in your article but it seems like all of the Maca supplements contain lead. It seems crazy that anyone would want to knowingly consume lead! Did your analysis find lead in Maca? If so what do you conclude about that? Very curious and thank you for your answer!

Im seeing positive effects in that area, however maca makes me incredibly horny, almost distractingly so. This is not the effect I was going for, I’m single and don’t have enough time to masturbate all day, but if this is the effect that you looking for you should definitely try this.

Hi Brenda, maca does not work for everyone. You may have become sensitive to it, or you could try reducing your dosage. There are also many other ways to naturally enhance libido. You may want to read through our article about how to increase estrogen, with other supplements and lifestyle adjustments you can try out https://selfhacked.com/blog/estradiol-cognitive-function/

I do not take any medications and am fairly healthy and active. Is it possible that maca can have the reverse effect for some women? Can maca affect the thyroid? I used maca before menopause and can trying attest to it’s benefits of feeling more energetic, enhancing libido and well being.

I take 4 capsules at 500 mg and all pain disappears. Any itch problem also disappears. I take it as needed. On the worst days, I can take 3 doses and lessen to 3 capsules on following days. I’ve used Swanson brand which is inexpensive.

However in my experience, pure, unmodified Maca powder has an impressve, almost immediate effect, whereas “extract”, even 10:1, with 5-10 capsules at once has practically none. It’s quite odd.

Although, vaginal atrophy was a huge issue with my menopause, I did have to use a low dose of estradiol to rid this issue.
I have had no issues with my sexual desires. I have shared with friends, and their sex lives have been greatly improved.
I recommend Maca strongly

I have tried maca as a supplement a few different times, but had to stop taking it due to spikes in my systolic and diastolic blood pressures on all occasions of usage. Even 1/4 tsp. caused my blood pressure to spike to high levels, e.g. 160/85. This effect continues for days after I stop taking the maca. The recent brand I tried was the gelatinized form by NHI FemmenessencePro for post-menopausal women, which is distributed by health professionals and appears to be manufactured under high quality conditions. This situation is highly unfortuante for me because the maca is the only supplement I have found that has brought my libido back to normal levels. My major concern is wondering what this reaction reveals about my health. My thryoid tests (TSH, T3, T4) have always come back right in the middle of the normal ranges. Could it be the glucosinolates or macaridines? There is only one study that suggests blood systolic blood pressure effects, largely in people already having a helath issue. Do you have any suggestions for doing further detective work?
