As a chef from South Africa I focus solely on the use of kelp as a viable food source.. in fact I teach others how to cook and prepare fresh and dried kelp. I have been consuming kelp for over 6 years now on a fairly regular basis with no adverse side effects. I am aware of the excess iodine dangers. So much more testing is needed based on the cooking process. Any information on the species Lamanaria would be most helpful. Kind regards Phil

Actually wish to know the different kinds of kelp. There is a kelp we actually culture or grow here using tea and sugar. It is consumed as tea in minimal quantities everyday. I wish to know if at this level it is harmful. Secondly, I did not understand the sticks because ours here actually grows like some flat substance and floats on the medium on which it is grown.

I don’t eat any kelp now and never will again unless I harvest it personally because there is no way for me to know with 100% accuracy it was wasn’t harvested in Japan or anywhere near enough to there be in any way affected by the meltdown.
