Used it for vaginal candida because I am allergic to diflucan and the over the counter plus prescribed vaginal suppository strength antifungal treatments were not working… plus they caused a lot of burning and discomfort when I used them! I put 3ml of gentian violet with 2ml of water in a short glass and soaked a tampon in it for a minute still in the plastic applicator, long enough to see the tampon had absorbed the solution at least 3/4 (it’s very quick) and inserted and left it for 4 hours. This was done twice daily for 5 days. It was very soothing! No burning as was experienced with the antifungals! This did the trick! Very thankful!

I have used Gentian Violet on all of my kids… And this was the best and most helpful that I have ever read! Thank you so much for this article and the work that you do. I used it on my baby’s thrush, in her mouth and on my nipples, and in the diaper area and it has all helped immediately when other antifungal’s have not. I now have it on my babies ringworm, and it seems to be clearing up however last night she cried in the middle the night for a couple of hours so it might be stinging her. She has not woken up in the middle the night since 6 months and she’s 10 months. I’ll give it a few days because all other antifungal treatments have not been working. After 24 hours it seems to be clearing up. It definitely got the ringworm off of my five year old’s shoulder after one application. I see in your article that it did cause some children’s legs to sting, so that might be what’s happening. She seems happy during the day?

Stops skin fungus infections cold. Jock itch and athlete’s foot it works when others fail. Because it stains the infected skin more than the healthy tissue it let’s you easily see where the infected areas are on the foot. For jock itch apply then rinse with water to prevent irritation of sensitive skin. After a good stain is present for jock itch only one treatment is needed. Rinse the effected area 3-4 times a day with plain water, gently dry thoroughly.
Over applying can increase the irritation but if the infection is deep ie not treated promptly it may need to be reapplied.

MRSA infections, stops them cold. I’ve used it on fresh and occasionally antibiotic resistant infected cuts. Treated fresh cuts never got infected. It has healed the infected antibiotic resistant ones (use only if not spreading through the deeper tissue which is a medical emergency!!!) Likely a localized MRSA skin infection.
High concentrations can burn the skin but it will heal without scars in a few days.

I’ve used Gentian Violet for over 45 years. I consider it a wonder drug. Still as effective today as the first time I used it. Outstanding.
Have used on unknown skin lesions as well, it sometimes worked, sometimes not, but never caused harm.

Isopropyl alcohol can be used to clean up spills. Time and sunlight will eventually cause it to fade on accidental stained items. Not a big deal but you’ll have purple fingers, nails for a couple days if not careful when using it

It should be in your medicine cabinet as it’s an effective, cheap and unique antiseptic.

This was the most comprehensive explanation of Gentian Violet. I was recently bitten by a spider on my arm. I can not say what kind of spider but the venom was enough to cause inflammation and discomfort. At the grocery store in the cosmetics aisle, I came across some ‘old remedies’: Gentian Violet and Mercurochrome. The GV is a 1% solution and I just knew it would help! I am so happy to see it back on the shelves, even if they’re not sure where to stock these tried and true remedies. Thankfully, the entry wounds have not become infected and while the inflammatory process is doing it’s thing, I feel confident there will be no infection!

Gentian violet completely got rid of tinea versicolor on my back, chest and shoulders after only 2 applications. Be very careful when applying and wear an old t-shirt under your clothes. The staining will be gone in less than a week.

My Boerboel (big dog kg74) has got a growth on her eyelid and because of her age, it cannot be removed. It is an open wound. Can I use Gentian Violet on it? If yes how often do I apply it?

I am a midwife and have treated many cases of thrush in baby’s mouth and mother’s breast. 2 applications, 24 hours apart is all that has been necessary to clear the thrush.
