I was wondering if you could help me make sense of something.

This is pertaining to the berberine article.

I had taken berberine. It cause sudden weight gain in the belly (15 lbs). I took it for 7 days. 500 mg twice a day. It made me feel extremely drowsy. I tried taking activated charcoal shortly after to clear out the berberine out of my system or any toxins. That combination caused me to completely lose my appetite. Made me nauseous with one bite of a sandwich.

Previous to taking berberine. I also have a hypothyroid condition.

I’m not sure what caused me to do that horribly with berberine. Did it wipe out my good bacteria? Did it shift my microbiome? Did it slow down my liver.

Please can someone help me make sense of what happened to me. Possibly give me a few tips on how to reverse the side effects of berberine.

Recent evidence seems to suggest the opposite. https://restorativemedicine.org/library/monographs/berberine/

Hi Will, berberine may cause nausea on an empty stomach, so it’s best taken with food. There are no studies to suggest that food will reduce its effectiveness.

I know some agents won’t work unless they’re taken on an empty stomach, like serrapeptase, etc. Thanks

Hmm, I have normally low pressure, and it made me sleepy, maybe by lowering pressure even more and reducing blood glucose.

Can you also take Berberine 3 times a day as well even though it lowers blood pressure?

I have a quick question. I started keto about 2 months ago when I had my blood tested with the following results: Glicemia: 101; Insulin: 19.6; Insulin afterload: 94.4 and HOMA-IR: 4.89. I also began to take berberine (1000mg/day) about a month and a half ago after learning about it in many scientific articles.

After two months (this monthJuly 2018) I retested to see how things were going and these were my results: Glicemia: 82; Insulin: 28.9; Insulin afterload: 47.5 and HOMA-IR: 5.85. So some lower and others HIGHER! I’m trying not to freak out as I know cortisol levels can spike insulin further. Has this happened to anyone? BUT, Is this normal? Do I just need to give the berberine and the diet a bit more time? Does my body need to adjust? If anyone has any comments, please let me know! I’d really appreciate it and thank you i advance! xoxo

Recently, my insulin level was megered first time in 10 years, and result is very high. I don’t take any medications for 2 years after Liver Chirrosis was diagnosed and take only supplements , mostly for Liver. I need supplements that decrease insulin resistance but not increasing insulin. Could somebody recommend a good list of such supplements with scientific references?

My doctor has me taking Metformin and wants me to start taking Losartan for BP, which I do NOT want to do.

Recent studies show that eating later like humans do versus our ancestors, actually raise glucose levels by 17% more than when we earlier in the day. And doing this has allowed me to sleep through the night for the first time in a month due to the fact that glucose levels are stable and serotonin levels are being supported hence, melatonin is as well.

I can only take berberine in the morning otherwise I get bad insomnia, that doesn’t seem consistent with increased serotonin. Any idea why it might cause insomnia? I use pure berberine HCl.
